Restored, Very Nice Classic 1944 John Deere LI Yellow INDUSTRIAL Collector Tractor Runs, Starts Great Original John Deere Engine Serial IL #51506 1 of only 201 made in 1944 Also 1 of the survivors of only 2,019 made overall 1941-1946 Electric Start Very Nice Paint 98-99% like New Rear FIRESTONE 7.5×22 Tires (Duals Not Included) Ready to Parade, Work, Show and Display Up for auction is a hard to find and beautiful 1944 John Deere LI Industrial Tractor at Abilene, Texas. The Firestone 7.5×22 rear tires still have the nubbies on them like new. The Dual Tires shown in some of the pictures above are NOT INCLUDED. We are doing this so we can list the tractor at the lowest price possible as some collectors will probably prefer just the regular view rear tires like in shots 2,3,4 above. Front tires are average with some dryness and cracks. The rear tires are not available for sale from Firestone for the time being and I’ve heard of single sets going for $1,600 now recently. This tractor was bought for $7,000 two years ago but we are selling it with no reserve though we hope it goes for more than that as we’ve seen some LI’s at collector auctions go for over $8,000. Starts and runs great. Transmission sounds normal but and sound normal as you’ll hear in park or when it driven. Here is a link to VIDEO of it starting and driving so you can see and hear it: 1944 John Deere INDUSTRIAL LI model Tractor (Note: in the video the battery cover is off but it comes with it, and it is shown with duals in the video too which aren’t included.) This John Deere LI Industrial Tractor needs nothing at all and is all ready to work or parade. Best of luck bidding! We’ll guarantee anything else you want to know about this JD LI so just ask and we are selling it at this great price as shown and described. Plus we 100% Guarantee this will be as described and shown on pickup or delivery or your money and shipping back. See our perfect feedback on over 500+ transactions as a happy buyer is all we insist on! Tractor can be picked or looked at right by friendly Abilene, TX just 3 hours west of Dallas, Texas. OR we can help with DELIVERY if needed on distances over 400 miles at only .50-$.70/a mile one-way. If less miles than that also feel free to email us for a quote. (Wt. on the John Deere LI is approx. 1,635 lbs. with the thick tube frame. No Tax on Farm Equipment.) From the John Deere Collectors Guide: “Utility tractor” describes a small tractor that performs a variety of “chores.” It may be the secondary tractor used for work not requiring the horsepower available in larger, primary tractors on large farms. Or, it may be the primary tractor on smaller farms. The Model “L”, introduced in 1937, was the first John Deere Utility Tractor. It was “unstyled” in design up until 1938 and it had a 2-cylinder engine. But unlike that in other John Deere Tractors of the time, it was a vertical, Hercules engine. It had a foot clutch and the offset engine aided visibility while cultivating single rows. John Deere Wagon Works in Moline, Illinois built the “L”. It was very popular for small field and garden work for plowing, cultivating and even lawn and pasture care. In 1941 the “LA” was introduced and was styled in design and it could pull a one 16-inch bottom. It joined the “L” whose styled version was introduced in 1938. The L by comparison could pull a one-bottom 12-inch plow in most conditions. The LA was powered with a John Deere vertical engine as was the L also starting in 1941. The LA is rated at 14.5 PTO HP and the L at 10.3 PTO HP. Both models are known to 2-Cylinder Collectors as “Baby Brother” of that Deere lineup and weigh around 2,200 lbs. and are around 7’10″ long and less than 4.5 feet so they are becoming increasing popular with collectors who find them easy to trailer or truck around even in the back of a heavy capacity pickup for farm or ranch work, shows or parades. Both models look alike unless parked together and then the larger, heavier rear wheels of the LA catch the eye. Both have a standard 3 Forward, 1 Reverse Transmission. The L and LA are both rated 3 out of 5 stars in the John Deere’s collector guide since they are hard to find and “very good investments.” The LI model is rate 4 out of 5 stars in the guide and “Excellent Investment Potential.” Changes from the L to the LI models: (from Industrial John Deere sources) LI uses the LA solid frame, while L uses a tube frame (however, there are numerous exceptions during production. It seems that most LIs still actually used the tube frame.) Two front head lights, and rear facing red marker light on left fender (only one headlight for “L”) High speed ring gear and pinion Makes a 3rd gear (road gear) speed of 10 MPH (Copied directly from an email) “After replacing bearings on several Ls, LAs, had to replace some on 44 LI recently. While examining ring gear and pinion gears I compared parts to LA. The cluster and drivegears are the same as LA, but the pinion gear which drives the ring gear in the back side of transmission is almost double the diameter of an L or LA, which in turn gives the LI axle more speed at low RPM. If anyone has transmission out of tractor they can take off rear 8 or 10 bolts, remove pan and can see pinion gear clearly and know by its large diameter that the transmission is LI. This is a positive way of knowing you have an LI.” High Speed Transport Attachment A foot throttle used to override the governor, and provide 13-16 MPH speeds! It seems that there are no records on how much this increased the RPMs. However a couple best guesses from very knowledgeable people (not me!) say about to 1750-1800 RPM. Rear Tool Box Gasoline tank from the LA (Eight gallon, instead of six in the normal L) Cast iron steering box mount (later tractors, to correct problems found with original) Shorter front axle spindles This is partially true. The LI could be fitted with the normal L front axle, which had a spindle height of 11 3/4 inches. However the optional 51″ wide axle was most often fitted to the LI for greater stability. This axle had shorter front spindles of 8 3/4 inches in height. Many LIs were shorter-but not all. (Thanks to a visitor of the site for the help!) We also have a office and location by Austin, Texas and 2-3 Midwest tractor and other locations we work with like here in TX as part of my business, The Tractor Barn. Or feel free to email me through eBay, or www.TheTractorBarn.com if you prefer. PAYMENT can be made within 7 days or less after the auction ends by either regular Check, Bank Check or Bank Wire and in some cases Paypal eCheck which is drawn out of your bank account if you are set up with Paypal. If picking up and paying in person than a Bank Cashiers Check is probably best. Classic tractors like this make great sense since they’ll appreciate and go up in value while you use and enjoy them. This tractor will make both a nice future investment and a great farm workhorse too. Especially when compared to a new $20,000 tractor that depreciates by 1/3rd the minute you buy it and drive it off the lot. And note when the stock market fell 50% last year antique tractors prices actually held steady and are up again this year as usual.
